Black Friday cashback: how to make sure you actually get paid
Cashback can add a real saving to a Black Friday deal, but only if it tracks and survives the retailer's checks. Here is what to do before you buy, when you can expect the money and what to avoid.

The short answer: treat Black Friday cashback as a bonus on a price you are already happy with, not a reason to buy. Black Friday 2026 is on 27 November, followed by Cyber Monday on 30 November. If you want cashback on your shopping, join a site now, check the retailer’s terms before you buy, and expect the money after Christmas rather than before it.
Do these things before the sales start
- Join at least one cashback site. It is free, and setting it up in advance means you are not rushing through sign-up when a deal goes live.
- Write a shopping list and note today’s prices. A cashback rate cannot rescue a discount that is not really a discount. Price history tools can show whether a “deal” is lower than usual.
- Check that your retailers offer cashback at all. Rates differ by retailer and often by what you are buying, whether you are a new or existing customer, and how you pay.
- Compare two sites. The same retailer can pay different rates on different sites, and rates can change during the week.
TopCashback’s own Black Friday guide says it expects higher rates across the weekend, so look again on the day. Do not assume a higher rate will apply to everything in your basket.
How to make sure your cashback tracks
Tracking is the part you control. Cashback is usually lost because the site never saw the click, or the retailer rejected the order later.
- Start with an empty basket. Items already in your basket may not be linked to your cashback click.
- Click through from the cashback site. Then finish the purchase in the same browser session.
- Accept the cookies the retailer needs. Blocking tracking cookies can stop the sale being recorded. Turn off ad blockers for that purchase if they interfere.
- Only use voucher codes listed by the cashback site. A code from anywhere else can cancel your cashback, and on some retailers it can affect the whole order.
- Wait for the confirmation page to load fully. Then save your order email.
- Check your account within a few days. On the TopCashback retailer terms we checked, purchases should appear within 7 days, and a missing cashback claim has to be made within 100 days of the order. Each site and retailer sets its own rules, so read the terms on the retailer’s page.
What usually does not earn cashback
Exclusions differ by retailer, so these are things to check rather than a fixed list:
- gift cards and vouchers bought from the retailer
- orders paid for partly with store credit or a retailer gift card
- orders using a voucher code the cashback site has not approved
- some sale items, tech categories or marketplace sellers
- items you return or cancel
Cashback is also normally worked out on the price of the goods, not the total you pay. VAT, delivery and other fees are often left out, so a 5% rate on a £100 order can pay less than £5.
When you will get the money
Cashback moves through stages. It first shows as tracked or pending, then becomes confirmed or payable once the retailer has passed its returns period and paid the cashback site.
For Black Friday shopping, that often means waiting weeks or months. Long returns periods over Christmas can push it back further. Do not count on cashback to pay for presents or your January bills.
If you return something, the cashback on that item will normally be removed.
New to cashback? Claim a joining bonus on your first order
A Black Friday purchase you were making anyway can also unlock a joining bonus. These were the terms when we last checked each offer:
| Site | Joining bonus | What you need to earn | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| TopCashback | £10 | £10 of approved cashback within 180 days, joining by 10am on 9 November 2026 | TopCashback offer |
| Quidco | £10 | £5 of confirmed cashback | Quidco offer |
Pending cashback does not count until it is approved, and some brands are excluded from the threshold, so check the terms before you rely on a bonus. These are referral links: we may earn a reward if you join through them, at no cost to you.

Our take
Decide what you want to buy and what you are willing to pay first. Then check cashback as the last step before you pay. If it tracks, you have saved a bit more. If it does not, you still got a price you were happy with.
